The 1975 Melanesia 2000 festival: A Photo Essay

The Melanesia 2000 festival took place between the 3rd and 7th of September, 1975. It was the first festival that advocated for the position of Kanak arts, and was strongly supported by Jean-Marie Tjibaou. Many commentators have suggested that Melanesia 2000 helped fuel an indigenous cultural awakening in New Caledonia. This photo essay captures some key moments within the festival.
